Postdoctoral or Research Associate Positions in Molecular Biology

Unique research and training opportunities to create and characterize transgenic and gene-targeted mouse models of neurodegenerative disease in the multidisciplinary setting of the Center for Dementia Research of Nathan Kline Institute, an affiliate of NYU School of Medicine, http://cdr.rfmh.org. Positions available in two areas: biology of protease and vesicular trafficking related to neuronal vulnerability in Alzheimer’s disease; molecular motors regulating the neuronal cytoskeleton. Strong background in molecular and/or cell biology required. Send resume and statement of interests to Ralph Nixon, M.D., Ph.D., CDR, Nathan Kline Institute, 140 Old Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962; Fax: 845-398-5422; E-mail: cdrinfo@nki.rfmh.org.

Postdoctoral & Research Associate Positions

The Center for Dementia Research of the Nathan Kline Institute, an affiliate of New York University School of Medicine, invites applications from highly motivated individuals with a strong background in molecular biology to investigate disease mechanisms in transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Unique research and training opportunities are available to combine molecular, genetic, morphologic, and in vivo imaging approaches in a multidisciplinary setting. Research will involve development and characterization of new transgenic and knockout mice modeling disease-related abnormalities of the neuronal cytoskeleton and defects in protease and vesicular trafficking leading to altered protein processing and neuronal cell death. These studies will use a broad range of molecular and cell biologic techniques. NKI is located 12 miles north of the GW Bridge on the 150 acre campus of Rockland Psychiatric Center. Send resume, statement of research interests, and a list of 3 references to Center for Dementia Research, Nathan Kline Institute, 140 Old Orangeburg Rd., Orangeburg, NY 10962; Fax: 845-398-5422; e-mail: cdrinfo@nki.rfmh.org.

Research Technologist Positions

The Center for Alzheimer’s Disease at the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) has several outstanding basic research opportunities at its new laboratory facilities. NKI , an affiliate of NYU School of Medicine, is located 12 miles north of the GW Bridge on the 150 acre campus of Rockland Psychiatric Center. We seek highly motivated candidates with a BA (or higher degree) in biological or chemical sciences for entry level or advanced positions in the following areas:

Electron Microscopy Technician. Full-time position available under the general supervision of the Facility Director. Position involves preparing biological specimens for TEM, operating the EM to evaluate specimens, and taking and printing micrographs of the samples (standard and digital images). In addition, the person will be collaborating with and/or assisting a research group with their EM projects. Opportunities are available to be involved in special projects and learn new techniques. One to 2 years experience in an EM lab required and experience with image analysis is desirable.

Research Technologist in Molecular Neurobiology of Alzheimer Disease. Entry level or more advanced position for research involving PCR, screening/genotyping transgenic mice, gel electrophoresis, protein isolation, column chromatography, cell culture, and cloning. Experience in molecular or cell biology and in handling animals desirable.
Cytoarchitectural Studies of Normal and Pathological Brains. Research will involve histology, immunocytochemistry, and computer-assisted morphometry.
