Research Interests
Neurodegeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis, tauopathy, proteolysis, axonal cytoskeleton and mechanisms of neuronal cell death.
In 1992, Dr. Rao received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Then he got his postdoctoral training in neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis (1993-1995) and University of California at San Diego (1995-1999).
Prior to NKI, Dr. Rao was a postdoctoral Fellow at the Ludwig Cancer Research Institute at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Rao examined the motor neuron disease specific mechanisms in mouse models of ALS. Dr. Rao has been at NKI since 1999.
