Dr. Ralph Nixon Receives the Oskar Fischer Prize – Gold Award

Dr. Ralph Nixon, Director of NKI’s Center for Dementia Research, has spent the last three decades working to uncover the fundamental cellular basis of Alzheimer’s disease. Today, his decades long work has been recognized with the awarding of the Oskar Fischer Prize – Gold Award. The international competition, founded to expand society’s understanding to find causes of Alzheimer’s, has selected Dr. Nixon for his contributions to enhance our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Nixon has not only been a pioneer and leader in moving the field beyond the “amyloid model” of Alzheimer’s disease, but his invaluable contributions will also be a driving force for future AD research.
