NIH R01 Grant Awarded to Helen Scharfman

New York – Dr. Helen Scharfman receives R01 grant from NIH. The grant, titled “Hyperexcitability in Alzheimer’s Disease,” addresses the hypothesis that early in Alzheimer’s Disease there is overactivity in some parts of the brain and this contributes to the subsequent decline in brain function. The grant uses animal models that stimulate different characteristics of humans with Alzheimer’s disease and uses these models to test new treatments to prevent or delay the onset of AD.
